If you have crooked or misaligned teeth, you may be considering treatment options, but lack the information to come to an informed decision. Many people come to our office wondering if they are a good candidate for Invisalign®.
What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is a type of orthodontic treatment that has the same goal as braces, but accomplishes this goal in a different manner. The treatment uses a number of almost invisible aligners that are quite comfortable and removable. These clear aligners are constructed using 3D computer imaging and are safe and effective at straightening teeth.
Many people would like to have their teeth straightened but would like to avoid being self-conscious during their treatment. This is a common attitude among teens and young people who are more sensitive to the opinions of their peers.
Invisalign® aligners are almost invisible, making the wearer less self-conscious during the process. They are also removable, so you can drink or eat whatever you like while being treated. Also, since Invisalign® does not involve wires or metal, it is more comfortable, and you will require fewer appointments to have them adjusted. The treatment also provides a method for visualizing what your straightened teeth will look like at the conclusion of your treatment.
Invisalign® treatment process
The Invisalign® treatment process is so simple, which makes it appealing to many people. You will begin by wearing a set of clear aligners for around two weeks. During this time, you may remove them only to eat, drink and clean your teeth. You will periodically replace each aligner with the following one in the series. As a result, your teeth will gradually shift into their proper positions.
You will be visiting us about every six weeks so that we can monitor your progress. The average treatment time ranges from 9 to 15 months until treatment completion. However, this varies depending on the unique needs of each patient.
Why should I select an orthodontist to straighten my teeth?
It is best to choose an orthodontist to straighten your teeth because they are highly trained and skilled specialists who have the most experience in this type of treatment. A dentist might only treat a few cases annually, while an orthodontist treats many more. Orthodontists also are better able to spot the difference between a basic case and a more complex one, as well as properly handle unanticipated difficulties when they occur.
