Here at Petty & Bielik Orthodontics, we want to wish you a happy holiday! During your break, we hope you have some time to relax and enjoy friends and family—and of course, we hope you get to indulge in some delicious holiday food.
You might be nervous about being surrounded by sticky, chewy goodies that could harm your braces. But don’t worry! Despite these temptations, there are plenty of tasty treats that will be perfectly safe for your braces. Here are some examples of holiday goodies with our orthodontists’ seal of approval:
Soft sugar cookies
Sugar cookies are holiday classics that are braces-friendly! Just be sure that both the cookie and its frosting are soft. Skip any options with hard sprinkle gems, candy toppings, and nuts.
Dinner rolls
A warm roll with butter—what could be better? When you’re examining the holiday dinner table for a braces-friendly option, rolls are a great choice. Since they’re soft and easily chewable, they’re unlikely to cause damage to your orthodontic appliances.
Potato pancakes (latkes)
This traditional holiday fare is soft, gentle on the mouth, and oh-so tasty!
Holiday cheese balls and logs
Did you know that cheese is great for your teeth? It helps balance out the pH levels of your mouth, which reduces your risk of cavities. Cheese is also packed with phosphates and calcium, so it’s great for your teeth and bones! As long as you steer clear of any nuts, holiday cheese balls are a great option when you have braces.
Soft pies
Apple, pumpkin, cherry, and chocolate pies are a safe dessert option when you have braces, especially if you only eat the fillings and skip the crust!
Pudding
You might not be able to indulge in sticky toffee this year, but you’re free to eat toffee-flavored pudding! Since pudding is soft and doesn’t require chewing, it’s safe for your brackets and wires.
As you can see, there are plenty of ways to safely indulge at the dinner table. So, don’t let braces stop you from enjoying your holiday season! Just remember to brush and floss after your holiday meal to wash away food leftovers. If you have any questions, feel free to get in contact with our team here at Petty & Bielik Orthodontics. From all of us, we wish you a happy holiday season!
